Types of Commercial Air-conditioning Systems

1.Split Air conditioner

  • Also know as 1:1 air conditioner, which comprises of one indoor unit connected with single outdoor unit by means of refrigerant piping.
  • Usually suitable for small shops, offices & houses.
  • Capacity range: 0.8 TR to 4 TR

2. Split Ductable Systems

  • Similar to split system, Small to large capacity ductable machines are connected to single outdoor units.
  • Ductwork is connected to indoor unit which can serve one or multiple areas to be cooled.
  • Capacity range: 2 TR to 20TR.

3. Multi-split System

  • Space saving System.
  • Multiple indoors (usually 3 to 5 units)of different types can be connected to single outdoor units.
  • Suitable for offices & apartments with multiple rooms.
  • Capacity range: 1 TR to 25 TR.

4. VRF System

  • Multiple indoors(upto 64 indoors) can be connected with single system.
  • Very much effective for commercial buildings, hospitals, hotels etc.
  • Variable inverter compressor is used in outdoor units which save huge amount of energy.
  • Refrigerant is used as cooling medium which flows through the refrigerant piping connected between outdoor & indoors
  • Outdoor units are modular type & can be combined to have bigger system.
  • Refrigerant piping is selected as per the total TR in downstream of outdoor unit.
  • Capacity range starts from 5HP to 100HP for a single system.

5. Chilled Water System

  • A chiller (air cooled or water cooled) is connected with indoor units by means of chilled water piping.
  • Huge space is required for chiller installation (terrace or plant room)
  • Water is used as cooling medium between indoors & chiller.
  • Different Chiller options can be selected as per the requirement like scroll chiller for small capacity, screw chillers for medium to large & centrifugal chiller for very high capacity requirements.
  • Air cooled & water cooled chiller option can be selected keeping in mind water availability & space constraints.
  • Many brands are producing Multifunction chillers which can cater Chilled water as well as Hot water simultaneously & independently.
  • High capacity systems ranges from 50 TR to 1300 TR. Suitable for large commercial buildings, hotels & hospital.

6. Evaporative Cooling System

  • Evaporative air cooling systems draw air over wetted pads and surfaces. This results in the evaporation of the water into the air which reduces the air temperature and increases its moisture content.
  • There are two types of evaporative cooling Direct & Indirect type.
  • Most Effective in Hot , Dry & low humidity climate conditions.
  • Compressor is not used in this system unlike other refrigerant systems, fan motor & water pumps are the only energy consumption devices.
  • Capacity range available is 500 CFM to 50000CFM

7.Rooftop Packaged System

  • Evaporator, Fan , Compressor , condenser units & all interconnecting refrigerant piping & accessories are housed in single cabinet.
  • Hassle-free installation, User has to connect only power supply cabling & Supply & return air ducting to the given outlet.
  • Can be easily mounted & installed on roof/terrace/open space , suitable for areas where there is limited space inside the room/area to be cooled.
  • Easy to dismantle & reinstall at new location, easy for maintenance.
  • Suitable for Supermarkets, Warehouses, Shopping centers, big halls , stations , airports etc.
  • Capacity range : 5TR to 50TR

8. Precision Air-conditioning (PAC)

  • Provide precise control of temperature and humidity in all applications in which is required a very high degree of precision.
  • Designed for equipment cooling (like high heat generating IT servers) not for people cooling.
  • Consists of Indoor & outdoor units with interconnecting refrigerant piping.
  • Main function of PAC is to supply cold air to the air inlet side of IT equipment & draw the hot air back from air outlet side
  • Special installation techniques are used by creating cold air & hot air chambers using space above false ceiling & below false flooring.
  • Features: Advance algorithm, high sensible heat ratio, high CFM, most reliable 365 day-24/7 operation, humidifier/dehumidifier options.
  • IT Server rooms, data centers, laboratories and many other industrial applications.
  • Capacity Range: 5 KW to 120 KW
